According to the official news released by Microsoft, the support for Windows 7 ended on 14 January 2020. End of support means Microsoft will no longer provide automatic fixes, security updates and technical support for Windows 7.

In preparation, ICTO is gradually upgrading the operating system (OS) from Windows 7 to Windows 10 for computers issued by ICTO since December 2017.

Up to now, 85% of desktop computers and 72% of notebook computers are installed with Windows 10 respectively.

Progress on Windows 10 Deployment

In the coming few months, we plan to upgrade the remaining 557 desktop computers and notebook computers to Windows 10. All computers issued by ICTO, except computers connected to instruments and installed with special software that requires running on Windows 7 will be upgraded to Windows 10 by April 2020.

For Personal Owned Computer

If you continue to use Windows 7 on your personal owned computer after 14 January 2020, it will continue to work but it will become more vulnerable to security threats and viruses. To ensure the security of your computer, Microsoft recommends you to upgrade computer’s Operating System to Windows 10 in order to receive security updates to protect computers from security threats.
