I. Common Scam Tactics
- Domain Imitation: Use of fake websites with slightly misspelt URLs.
- Phishing Emails: Posing as “official conference booking services” to pressure recipients into making payments.
- Deceptive Redirection: Fake sites may link to a real website to make it appear legitimate.
- Fake Payment Portals: Links direct users to unregulated platforms, sending money straight to the scammers.
II. Key Self-Protection Measures
- Verify Officially: Never use links or contact details from unsolicited emails. Confirm directly via the official conference website.
- Check Payee Details: Before paying, ensure the merchant’s name matches the intended recipient. Any mismatch indicates a potential scam.
III. If You Suspect a Scam
- Contact Your Bank: If payment has been made, immediately request a stop payment.
- Report to the Police: File a report in the event of financial loss or data leakage, providing all relevant evidence (emails, payment records, etc.).
