I. Common Scam Tactics

  • Domain Imitation: Use of fake websites with slightly misspelt URLs.
  • Phishing Emails: Posing as “official conference booking services” to pressure recipients into making payments.
  • Deceptive Redirection: Fake sites may link to a real website to make it appear legitimate.
  • Fake Payment Portals: Links direct users to unregulated platforms, sending money straight to the scammers.

II. Key Self-Protection Measures

  • Verify Officially: Never use links or contact details from unsolicited emails. Confirm directly via the official conference website.
  • Check Payee Details: Before paying, ensure the merchant’s name matches the intended recipient. Any mismatch indicates a potential scam.

III. If You Suspect a Scam

  • Contact Your Bank: If payment has been made, immediately request a stop payment.
  • Report to the Police: File a report in the event of financial loss or data leakage, providing all relevant evidence (emails, payment records, etc.).
