According to the Charter of the University of Macau, the official abbreviation of the English name of the University of Macau is “UM”. UM has been using the Internet domain name “UMAC.MO” since the 1991/1992 academic year. However, the inconsistency between the current domain name “UMAC.MO” and the official abbreviation “UM” might have caused confusion among the general public. Most of the higher education institutions in the neighbouring regions have added “EDU” in their domain names to identify as an educational institute. Therefore, the University conducted the study and decided to revise the domain name from “UMAC.MO” to “UM.EDU.MO” Changing of domain name is continued to be carried out in phases since 10 November 2018. In addition, the email address is also updated as userID@um.edu.mo / userID@connect.um.edu.mo.
ICTO is performing the domain name changes in different phases and devoting the best effort to ensure that computing services are not affected by this change.
